Aunt Carolyn

The picture is not the best one I ever took, but it is just another example of an answered prayer. This courageous and inspiring lady is my Aunt Carolyn. She lost her husband to a sudden heart attack in April. Then she was diagnosed with breast cancer in June. During the next few months, she has endured chemotheraphy, a couple of hospital stays, double pneumonia, and is now headed full-blast into radiation treatments. At her last doctors' appointment Carolyn found out that her blood count was extremely low and she was confined to the house. We were so afraid that she would not be able to come to mom's yesturday for our family Thanksgiving Dinner. But in an awesome answered prayer, she was there! She came in boasting of a blue hat and huge earrings to "distract" from her beautiful bald head. Not that she really needed too. With my siblings and cousins, it is sweet because Carolyn is known for wearing lots of jewelry! When we were little and would gather up at Granny's for Sunday dinner, we would just ooh and ahh over her jewerly! And to us, she never wore the same thing twice!

Carolyn, you are such a beautiful person inside and out! You have been such a light for me. Keep holding your head up and praising our Lord. You will win this battle. I love you!

Family Wishlist

We have been making a wishlist this morning. At Amazon.com, you can make a wishlist to share with family, friends, neighbors, etc. We made a one because mom and dad asked us a while back to make a list. The kids did make one, but they didn't add alot to them. Up until today, I had no clue myself as what to get them. It was nice to have them yell in my ear tell me what they would like as we looked through the many choices. I actually can't wait until I am by myself to do a little Christmas shopping! Feel free to check out our list if you need some ideas for what to get children around the ages of mine. Matthew will be 11 in March, Hope will be 8 in January and Amberly will be turning 5 on December 23rd.

Sunday School Lesson for Nov. 22, 2009

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100: 4-5 (KJV)

If I could start listing everything from now until Thursday that the Lord has done for me, I wouldn't even scratch the surface. He saved my soul. He gave me a wonderful husband. A son that wasn't supposed to live past 12-14 weeks into pregnancy, then him being born weeks early & struggling to live, but yet God allowed him to. For a beautiful red-headed little girl that helped me as I said goodbye to my beloved red-headed grandmother. My sweet baby girl proving to the doctors that Someone else has control over how many children I could have. Not only did He give me a wonderful extended family but a loving and supportive church family too. Oh, I am so blessed. I could still go and on, but I want to time to say, THANK YOU LORD for what all You have done for me and my loved ones.

Tomorrow in Sunday School I will be reading the Psalm 100 scripture to the children. We will talk about what we have to be thankful for as we color the Thankful Turkey craft from Christian Preschool Printables. You will have to scroll down to find it.

Thanksgiving Dinner

We are having our family Thankgiving Dinner tomorrow after church. Then we will meet up with my mom's side of the family Thur. I am all up for a good southern cornbread dressing. There is nothing like it even if I eat it twice this week. I love Thanksgiving! As if there wasn't going to be a galore of food, I wanted to take something new out to mom's. I've did a little searching around but not yet found the perfect thing. I did find what looks like a great site filled with some yummy recipes.... Joy of Baking. I can't wait to go back and search around for myself.

Special Prayer Request

Once again I am calling out to all the prayer warriors! My Aunt Carolyn has now been confined to her house. Her blood count is extremely low. Like she says.... "I can't even go to Walmart!" Please remember her in your prayers. We are keeping our fingers crossed that she will get to attend our family Thanksgiving dinner at mom's. She doesn't need to be alone as she lost her husband in April from an unexpected heart attack. Two months later she received her diagnosis of breast cancer. She needs the love and support of family around her this holiday season.

It's all in the details!

So how horrible has the last couple of weeks been for us? Well, to tell you the truth, it has been really bad. There is some good news though and I can't wait to tell you about it! You will have to be patient, this is going to be a long post. Can't you tell the kids are all snuggled up in their little beds!

About 1 1/2 weeks ago, a insurance agent came to check out some damage that we had from a water leak around the kitchen and back door area. We thought that the floor was totally gone as well as the wall and everything in between. He told us that the insurance wouldn't cover the flooring but would cover the linoleum that we have. Thankfully, it isn't a big area to be replaced and my dad re-did the bathroom and kitchen floors at my parents house so we are going to ask for his assistence. We are trying to save the lionleum by drying it out but we don't know if that is going to happen or not. I am so afraid of mold with us having allergies and asthma. We did get a few more estimates and are working with the insurance company to see what else will be covered. Right now we are playing the waiting game.

When we do start to repair/replace everything, the guy who is working for us said that it would be better to work our way from the outside in. That means trying to find out if the leak is coming from the roof or around the outside light at the back door. We are thinking that maybe if we replace the light and place a better seal around the light, the leak will be fixed. "Guy" is then going to work replacing the baseboard, wall studs, floor, etc. That is one problem fixed!

"Guy" is then going to help us with problem number #2. That is figuring out why we only have 1/2 of the house with power. And for the most part, it is not in the same area all day long. Don't ask! Prime example: Yesturday morning Rickey and Matthew got up early to go to Brotherhood Breakfast. Rickey decided to wear jeans to the breakfast, then come home and put on his suit. Now we know that men don't like to iron so the dryer is Rickey's best friend. He goes in there to throw in his jeans and lo and behold, it doesn't work. So he comes back in the bedroom and proceeds to "try" and iron his jeans. Ok, so now after they are arrived back home from brotherhood, us girlies are ready for church. Still no dryer! So we go on to church and have a wonderful service. We get back home and for some reason, he is back in the utility room. The dryer works! This is what we have been dealing with for 5 days now. Ughhh, it is really beginning to get to me. So needless to say, instead of blog hopping, we are plug hopping! Yes, that right! I have even took my computor to our bedroom. It is sitting on a makeshift desk. The monitor is sitting on a very small wobbly side table, the keyboard is resting on a pillow in my lap, with the tower is beside me in the floor. Yeah... fun! I don't have my printer in here. Oh, how I need my printer. And since I move the computor in the bedroom, I have been without Internet service until late this afternoon. I don't know what happend, but it has drove me insane today. I mean it was bad having it off and on over the weekend, but come on. Even our weekly menu planning has some major adjusting to do. We never know when we are going to be able to cook. And with Rickey working late every night this week, it is horrible. Can you tell yet that I haven't been online much in the past few days? So much to catch up on! Anyways, maybe everything will be fixed as soon as possible.

So I did mention that I had some good news. You do remember that, don't ya!

Ok, first of all... For the very first time ever, I won something! Yep! Valerie over at The Crafty classroom sent me an email and told me I was the Kids Choices winner! Go visit her wonderful homeschooling blog to see what I won! Her websites and blogs are wonderful. She is very creative. I am actually going to put the cards in someone's stocking for Christmas!

Even though that was some good news, this one is even better! My aunt Carolyn, who has been struggling with breast cancer since the first of the year, had her last chemo treatment this past Thursday. She still has more radiation treatments as they are treating it very aggressively. But.... she is claiming a great healing from our Lord! Even has the latest scans are proving it, they are coming back negative.... as in NO CANCER!!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!! The doctors originally gave her 1 year to live and now they are saying 3-5 years. Only the Lord knows and I believe that if He has healed her, she may outlive the rest of us!

Ok, before I go hit the sack, I do ask that you remember my son, Matthew in your prayers. We took him last week for a normal check on his eyesight. We found out that he has a spot on the back side of his eye that needs to be watched closely. It may not be anything, but it is something that we are concerned about and will be taking him back in 3 months for another check. He did end up having to get some glasses to help him read. And if he lets me, I will be getting some photos of him uploaded with his specs on soon. Please keep him in your prayers!

So nighty-night folks! Tomorrow is a big day since I have to get creative myself to teach Amberly about Pilgrims and Indians.

Lesson for Nov. 15, 2009

So what does the things in this photo have to do with a Sunday School lesson?

How about making something like this?

We can't use scarecrows to scare away frightening things, but we do have Someone who has promised to be with us, to protect us and to never leave us.
And for that, we have something to be thankful for.

The scarecrows wasn't my idea, but I love them. I got it from sundayschoolnetwork.com. I cut a 4in. block of the darker felt and for the cirle "straw hat", I traced a can of air freshner on a the lighter color. Cut the sunflower fabric into thin strips. Wrapped the piece of square felt block around the dum-dum suckers left from Halloween. Tied the fabric in a knot around the sucker to hold the dark felt. Hot-glued the circles around the sucker for the "straw hat". Took permanent makers to draw the smiley face. At Sunday School Network, there is a tract that you can print along with the lesson idea. I am also taking extra fabric, felt, and suckers just in case we have more than the four children. I wouldn't think that you would be able to eat the suckers after hot-gluing the felt to them, so I am taking even more suckers to have for the children to eat!
